Molang the Chubby Rabbit & Mini Doughnut

So the holidays are coming soon. It’s another year that I won’t be able to spend it with my crazy and weird loving family. I’ll still find it weird not having the holidays with snow. Summer is slowly making it’s way into the Waikato. The weather has been strange, but here’s to hoping for better weather with the sun shining bright! It’s been a while since I’ve seen some bright sunlight.

This was created from seeing this adorable Molang plush while window shopping! I used to have a really bad habit of window shopping, saving things into my cart, then forgetting about it. Haha, what a horrible habit! It’s alright at least I’m not buying anything that I don’t need. Instead I’m making them myself! Hehehe! You have to watch the cuteness from Molang! The cuteness is so addicting! I can’t stop watching them!

I made this pattern that followed the shape of an actual Molang plush. The shape reminds me a bit of a bean! So when you’re done crocheting the body, make sure you’re thinking of beans~ To give it the right shape.

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing shut and long enough to bring upwards to make a dent to shape Molang’s tummy.

Stuff body firmly with poly-fill.  The body will come out looking a bit like an oval, but don’t fret! Once you’re done or happy with how well the body is stuffed, then bring your yarn through the body into the middle of the bean. See the photo below in regards to how it may look once it’s done.

I pulled the yarn through about 8-10 stitches around rows 16-17 and pulled it kind of tight so that the dent showed up for it’s tummy. Keep shaping the body until you’re satisfied with how it looks. It may not look like much but eventually it’ll come to look like a bean shape.

Do not be afraid to squeeze your body. Sometimes it helps shape the body.

Row 13: sc, dec (14)

FO, and leave long tail to sew the doughnut shut.

Assembling

Fold the doughnut in half on top of each other, make sure to align the stitches. Then slowly stuff the doughnut as you sew around. Do not over stuff, or under stuff the doughnut, or else it will be too flat, or be too bulky. Then you’re done! You can glue on sprinkles, or any other decorations that you would like to put onto the doughnut.

I used embroidery thread to sew on bullion knots to the icing part of the doughnut. See this following video on how to make bullion knots. I find it to be very simple to follow. Good luck!

There may be mistakes on the pattern, and if you find any, please let me know. I wrote this after I already made it. However, I may have forgot some along the way when I’m typing it now.

Please could you explain this row on the body
    Rows 18-23: Dec, 7sc all around (48)
After row 18 I would have 48 stitches, but would lose 6 stitches on rows 19-23 too leaving only 18 stitches for row 24
    Am I reading it wrong or should it be;
    Row 18 Dec, 7sc all around (48)
Rows 19-23 sc all around (48)

Hi Kim, apologies, I might have typed it up wrong when I wrote it on the blog. Row 18 is separate from row 19-23! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I have fixed it on the pattern now. Many thanks!
